Well-meaning treachery. Public-funded digitisation of works free of rights

In the past, libraries provided works for research and also new projects for publishing houses. The growing existence of digital copies will facilitate educational and private uses, but should also contribute to publishing projects. It would be paradoxical if digitisation were, in practice, to remove from the public domain works that had previously been in it.
