Abstract

Over the past year, the popularity of Social Networking Sites has seen tremendous growth in Spain. Because of these networks´ everyday online ubiquity, the rising number of new users, and the integration of library applications, information professionals have taken a huge interest in Social Networking Sites. This article will analyze the concept behind Social Networking Sites, different types of these sites, the use of Facebook as an academic library, and the creation of Facebook Pages as the best presence model for libraries. In the final part of the article, I discuss how to create and promote a Facebook Page and how to organize events on the web site.
