Photographic heritage of Catalonia in the Network

Abstract

It is specified which photographies are included in this study as photographic heritage of Catalonia. The problems of quantifying this heritage are described. It assesses the presence of photographic heritage in the network of twenty-six institutions from Catalonia managing photographic archives, with photographies available on the network, or having started digitalization projects that include having a minimum of 5,000 digitized images. Fifteen of these twenty six entities, are offering access to its collection of photographies on the Internet, with a total of more than 250,000 photographies available in the network. The study details the total amount of every entity collection, the digitized amount, and how many of these images are in the network. Difference between digitized images and accessible images on the Internet, are explained by the difficulties in to face the digitazing, the images cataloging, the publishing on the internet with appropiate software and management of legal rights inherent to the photographies.
