Abstract

Internet is transforming of the business model of the press. The free access to online news, the competition increase and the crisis of the sector has reopened the debate on the future of the newspapers in the convergence era. The object of this paper it is to examine bases of the new business models of the press in the Net. The analysis sees the revenue sources of the online information: the advertising and the sale of the product. The methodology is the study of cases that is applied to the business strategies of four Spanish digital newspapers: Elpaí­s.com, Elmundo.es, Soitu and Factual.
